For four days February 1-4, 2018, IPI and the IPA's Committee on Family and Couple Psychoanalysis are co-sponsoring a conference on psychoanalytic family and couple therapy, to be held in Rockville, MD, near Washington, DC.

In this conference, we will explore atypical arrangements and varied modalities for therapy, such as combined or concurrent individual, couple, or family treatments, adaptations in treatment settings for families with adolescents or young children, mother-infant therapy, home settings for therapy, or therapy for conditions such as psychosis or addiction. The presentations will include papers, case presentations and discussions, with a focus on clinical cases and vignettes.

Presenters from across the United States and 7 other countries will join together to study the effects of various arrangements for family and couple psychoanalytic therapy. We will present in-depth cases, offer theoretical ideas, explore the ethics of various arrangements, and investigate clinical process. We will explore the process of change, the effects of combining modalities, the issues around choice of particular modalities of treatment, and the outcome of our work. Discussants from varying regions and points of view will exchange ideas with each other and with all participants who attend.
The conference will include lectures, case presentations, large and small group discussions, and a welcoming reception on Friday afternoon.
